“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire”
-William Butler Yeats
The Charm School International Apprentice program utilizes culture as a means of teaching students etiquette and lifeskills to young ladies. The students within the program meet once a month for a group mentoring session where they participate in a a half-day intensive where they complete an interactive lifeskills lesson, are taught dining etiquette basics and participate in a local cultural immersion experience to impart diversity training and engage critical thinking skills. Additionally, the students partake in a one-on-one mentoring session with a Charm School International Mentor to help them set goals, receive guidance and dive deeper into the lessons taught in the group session.
The students participate in the monthly lessons throughout the school year and the curriculum culminates into an end-of-school-year cultural immersion experience abroad where the girls can have an authentic experience where they can use the skills they’ve acquired throughout the school year. Recruitment takes place at the beginning of each school year and students can enter this program once they are a freshman in a Tarrant County Area high school. Students are encouraged to remain in the program until they graduate.
“My Favorite thing about Charm School International is being able to learn new things such as cultures and food.”
-Dezenay Jones, Class of 2018
Culture Club was designed for our students in elementary and middle school. The participants in this program gain exposure to different cultures through literary passages. Each passage is followed by an interactive component such as dancing, singing or a craft and then a lifeskills lesson. The students in this program meet once a week for 6 weeks at their respective school or community center.
